What food is it? 

It’s a hamburger. 

It’s a bowl of noodles.

It’s bread. 

It’s mutton.

It’s beef.

What vegetables are they? 

They’re potatoes.

They’re cabbages.

They’re carrots.

What kind of noodles would you like?

I’d like chicken, potato and cabbage noodles.

What size would you like?

I’d like a large bowl of noodles. 

Language points

1. What kind of noodles would you like?

kind 在此句中作“種類”講,a kind of“一種”,all kinds of  “各種各樣的”。

kind of “有幾分”

e.g. A cat is a kind of animal. 貓是一種動物。

The cat is kind of smart. 這只貓有幾分機靈。

2. May I take your order?/Can I help you?

1) 這都是服務用語,可根據不同的服務場合翻譯成不同的意思。如:在餐館, 都可以用,翻譯成:“你想吃點什么?”, 

在商店,用后者,則是“你想買點什么?”

2) 類似的服務用語還有What can I do for you? 此句的本義為: “我能為你做點什么?”

它與Can I help you?是同義句。

3. What size would you like? 你要多大的? 

 size n. (尺寸、體積、規模、身材等的)大??;

(數量的)多少;(衣服、鞋帽的)尺碼 

e.g. take the size of a box  量箱子的尺寸 

houses of all sizes  大大小小的房子 

boys of all the same size 

一樣個頭的男孩子們 

What size of shoes do you want? 

你要多大號碼的鞋子? 

4. some和any的用法

some和any 既可以修飾可數名詞又可以修飾不可數名詞,some常用在肯定句中,而any則常用在否定和疑問句中。所以, some 和 any 的區別在于: some和any 的用法主要是考慮用在肯定句、疑問句還是否定句中,與名詞的可數與否無關。

some的用法: some意為“一些”,可作形容詞和代詞。它常修飾可數名詞復數。

e.g.  some books 一些書,

some boys 一些男孩,

也可修飾不可數名詞:

some water 一些水  some tea 一些茶葉

any的用法: any意為“任何一些”,它也

可修飾可數名詞復數或不可數名詞,常

用于疑問句和否定句。

e.g. I can’t see any tea. 我沒看見茶葉。 

Do you have any friends at school? 

你在學校有一些朋友嗎? 

但在表示建議,反問,請求的疑問句中,或期望得到肯定回答時,多用some而不用any。

e.g.  Would you like some coffee?

你要不要來點咖啡? 

How about some fruit juice? 

來點水果汁如何? 

當any表示“任何”的意義,起強調作用時,它可以用在肯定句中;

e.g.  Any student can answer this question.

任何學生都可以回答這個問題。
