語法感知

感知以下課文原句,完成方框下的小題

1.Having seen quite a few productions of Hamlet and read the play many times,I was full of confidence—until the Peking Opera came to town!

2.Dating back to the 18th century,Peking Opera has over two hundred years of history.

3.Using such techniques,the opera has transformed a small stage into the whole universe.

4.Many people thought she didn’t live up to Helen’s title of “the most beautiful woman in the world”,influencing opinions of the movie to some extent.

語法精析

一、動詞的-ing形式作狀語可以表示時間、原因、條件、結果、讓步、方式或伴隨情況等。

1.時間狀語

動詞的-ing形式作時間狀語,相當于一個時間狀語從句,所表示的動作與主句的動作一般是同時發生,有時可由連詞when,while,after引出。

(1)Hearing the result(=When I heard the result),I couldn’t help jumping.

聽到這個結果,我不禁跳了起來。

(2)Having made full preparations(=After we have made full preparations),we are ready for the examination.做了充分的準備之后,我們準備參加考試。

2.原因狀語

可以與as/since/because等引導的原因狀語從句轉換。

(1)Being so excited(=As he was so excited),he couldn’t go to sleep that night.

由于非常激動,那晚他沒睡著。

(2)Having lived in the city for many years(=Since I had lived in the city for many years),I knew it well.

因為在這個城市住了多年,所以我對它很了解。

3.條件狀語

可以與if/unless等引導的條件狀語從句轉換。

(1)Working hard at your lessons(=If you work hard at your lessons),you will succeed.如果你努力學習,就一定能成功。

(2)Not making good use of the time(=If you don’t make good use of the time),you’ll regret.如果不好好利用時間,你會后悔的。

4.方式或伴隨狀語

不可以轉換成從句,但可以轉換成并列句。

(1)The girls came into the classroom,singing and dancing(=and they sang and danced).女孩子們唱著跳著進了教室。

(2)He lay on the grass,staring at the sky for a long time(=and stared at the sky for a long time).他躺在草地上,長時間地望著天空。

5.結果狀語

表示必然的結果,它常常位于句末,可擴展為一個含有并列謂語的簡單句,有時也可以轉換成非限制性定語從句。

His father died,leaving him a lot of money(=and left him a lot of money/which left him a lot of money).他父親死了,留給他許多錢。

6.讓步狀語

可以與although/though引導的讓步狀語從句轉換。

(1)Knowing all this(=Although they knew all this),they made me pay for the damage.盡管知道了一切情況,他們還是要我賠償損失。

(2)Having made up my mind(=Though I had made up my mind),I still wanted to play.盡管我已下定決心,我仍然想玩。

二、動詞-ing形式作狀語的注意事項

1.邏輯主語

動詞-ing形式作狀語,其邏輯主語一般就是句子的主語,它們之間是一種邏輯上的主謂關系。

Being ill,he didn’t attend the wedding.

因為生病,他沒有出席婚禮。(he與being ill是邏輯上的主謂關系→He was ill.)

2.獨立結構

有時現在分詞有自己的邏輯主語,這時其邏輯主語相對于句子的主語來說是獨立的,因此又叫獨立主格結構,其構成形式是“名詞/代詞+v.-ing”。

She being ill,her mother had to look after her at home.

她生病了,母親不得不在家照顧她。

The meeting being over,we went to play football.

會議一結束,我們就去踢足球了。
