一般過去時
我們已經接觸過“一般現在時”、“現在進行時”和“一般將來時”。但如果要描述過去的事情，該如何表達呢? 請仔細觀察下面的例句，然后補全結論部分中所缺的內容。
1. I was late for school this morning.
2. Susan wasn’t born in Shanghai.
3. Were your parents at home yesterday?
4. Where were you born?
be的過去式有四巧：
一是時間狀語巧，表示過去的短語要記牢；
二是形式巧，單數was，復數were；
否定句結構是三巧，not緊跟was／were；
四是疑問句式巧，was／were向前跑(提前)。
知識講解
1. Where were you born?
你出生在哪里？
(1) 本句是由where引導的特殊疑問句，用于詢問地點。詢問某人出生在何時/何地，用一般過去時態。
(2) born 是動詞bear“出生”的過去分詞，be born是 出生 的意思，一般只用于過去時態，通常在be born的后面接時間或地點：
be born in + 年/月/地點; be born on+某日。
2. I was born in a small village in Shanxi Province.
我出生在山西省的一個小村莊里。
(1) 山西和陜西：Shanxi and Shaanxi 英文中寫法不同。
(2) 英語中“地點”從小到大，和漢語相反。
如文中提到的：山西省大同市許村
I was born in Xucun, Datong, Shanxi Province.
3. What was the name of the village?
村莊的名字叫什么？
本句用于詢問名字，其同義句為： What was the village’s name?
the name of… 意為“……的名字”。
e.g. Mimi is the name of my cat.
= Mimi is my cat’s name.
我的貓名字叫咪咪。
4. What was the name of your first school?
你第一個學校的名字是什么？
first是序數詞。序數詞在修飾名詞時一般在前面加the, 但如果序數詞前面有形容詞性物主代詞時，the省略。
e.g. He is ___________ student to come to the school. (第一個)
My ___________ teacher was Ms Yao.（第一個）
5. What were they like? 他們是怎樣的人？
(1) “What be sb. like?”句型用來詢問某人的外貌特征或性格特征；be like 意為“像”?；卮饡r句中不用be like，而用“be + 形容詞” 或“have + 名詞”。
【拓展】“What do/does /did+ 主語 + look like?” 是問一個人的外貌特征。
e.g. ①——他長得什么樣？——他又高又瘦，并留著黑色短發。

6. She was strict but very nice. 她很嚴格但很和善。
strict 嚴格的，嚴厲的。
常用短語：be strict with sb. 對某人要求嚴格
be strict in sth. 對某方面要求嚴格
e.g. My dad is strict with me. He is strict in his work too.
我父親對我要求很嚴格。他對工作也很嚴格。
7. She was very friendly. 她很友好。
形容詞：friendly 友好的；
名詞：friend 朋友；
反義詞： unfriendly 不友好的；
短語：make friends with sb. 與某人交朋友
be friendly to sb. 對某人友好
e.g. He wants to ________________________(交一些美國朋友).
We should ____________ each other（彼此友好）.
