Mid-Autumn Festival(中秋節)

Date:  on the 15th of August in the Chinese lunar calendar

moon cake (月餅)

Round baked cake with fillings in it.

Enjoy the moon(賞月)

Enjoying the moon is the most popular activity on the Mid-autumn Festival.

Answer the questions.

How do people celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival?

By admiring the moon and sharing mooncakes with their families.

I think “full moon” means  “The moon is very round on the night of Chinese Lunnar August 15th.”  

I think “full feelings” means “The feelings between people are very full of love and miss like the round moon. ” 

Language Points

1.They carry people’s wishes to the families the love and miss.

月餅寄托著人們對他們所愛與思念的家人的祝福。

wish此處用作名詞,意為“祝福;愿望”。

►Send you my best wishes. 送給你我最美好的祝愿。

►My wish is to become a doctor. 我的愿望是當一名醫生。

wish還可用作動詞,意為“希望;想要”,后接名詞、代詞或動詞不定式作賓語。

►Do you wish a pen or a book? 你想要的是鋼筆還是書?

►I wish you success.     我祝你成功。

►We wish to see the film. 我們希望看那部電影。

辨析 wish 與 hope

wish to do sth.      希望做某事

wish+ that從句     希望……(不易實現的愿望)

wish sb. to do sth. 希望某人做某事

wish sb.+n.           希望某人……

hope to do sth.     希望做某事

hope+ that從句    希望……(易實現的愿望)

miss動詞,意為“思念,想念”。

► I m sure that everybody will miss him.

我相信每個人都會想念他的。

miss作動詞,還可表示“錯過”后接名詞、 代詞或動詞-ing形式作賓語。

►Don t miss our bargain offer. 本店大減價,勿失良機!

►I missed taking part in the sports meeting.

我錯過了參加這次運動會的機會。

2.However, most people think that the story of Chang’e is the most touching.

然而,大多數人認為嫦娥的故事最動人。

however副詞,意為“不過;然而”,有轉折的含義,相當于but,可位于句首、句中和句末。

位于句首時,其后用逗號隔開;

位于句中時,其前用分號或逗號,其后用逗號隔開;

位于句末時,其前用逗號隔開。但but只能置于句首或句中。

3.Whoever took this could live forever, and Hou Yi planned to take it with Chang’e.

無論誰喝了此藥都能長生不老。后羿打算和嫦娥一起服用。

whoever作代詞,意為“無論誰;不管什么人”,相當于no matter who,可引導讓步狀語從句或名詞性從句。此處whoever引導名性從句,作主語,表達讓步之意。

► Whoever did it, I didn’t.

不管這事是誰干的,反正不是我干的。

►Whoever comes will be welcome.  誰來都歡迎。 

Plan動詞,意為“計劃,規劃”,其過去式及過去分詞均為 planned,現在分詞為planning。 

常用短語:plan to do sth. 意為“計劃做某事”。

►I plan to go shopping after work.我打算下班后去購物。

4.…tried to steal the medicine when Hou Yi was not home………試圖趁后羿不在家時偷仙藥。

try to do sth. 意為“盡力做某事”

try doing sth. 意為“嘗試做某事”

► He shut his eyes and tried to sleep. 他閉上眼睛想睡覺。

► He tried to find out the answer to the question.

他努力尋找這個問題的答案。

►You always go there by train. Why not try taking a bus?

你總是坐火車去那兒。為什么不試試坐公共汽車呢?

steal動詞,意為“偷;竊取”。其過去式、   

過去分詞分別為stole、stolen。

► She used to steal money from her father’s drawer. 

他過去常從父親的抽屜里偷錢。

► It’s wrong to steal.   偷竊是不對的。

5.Hou Yi was so sad that he called out her name to the moon every night.

后羿傷心不已,每晚對月呼喊她的名字。

so…that... 意為“如此……以至于”引導結果狀語從句,so后接形容詞或副詞,常用以下結構:

so + 形容詞/副詞 + that從句;

so + 形容詞+ a/an + 單數可數名詞 + that 從句;

so + many/few + 復數可數名詞 + that從句;

so + much/little + 不可數名詞 + that 從句。

►It was so hot that we all went for a swim.

天氣太熱了,所以我們都去游泳了。

►He had so many books to read that he had no time to watch TV.

他有這么多書要讀以至于沒有時間看電視了。

call out one’s name 意為“大聲呼喊某人的名字”。

►I called out her name but she turned a deaf ear to my calling.      

我大聲叫她,但她不理我。

6.After this, people started the tradition of admiring the moon and sharing mooncakes with their families. 

此后, 人們便開始了同家人一起賞月品月餅的傳統。

tradition名詞,意為“傳統”。其形容詞形式是 traditional (傳統的)。

the tradition of...意為“……的傳統”。

► It is simply a village tradition. 它僅僅是一個村莊的傳統。

admire 動詞,意為“欣賞;仰慕”。

常用結構:

admire sb./sth. 欣賞某人/某物; 

admire sb. for sth. 為某事而欣賞某人;因某事而佩服某人

►We admired him very much. 我們很欣賞他。

►I admire her for her bravery.我很欽佩她的勇氣。
