過去時態的特殊疑問句同一般現在時中的一樣，都需要借助助動詞，所不同的是在過去時態里，助動詞只有did。它沒有人稱和數的變化，而—般現在時要根據人稱和數的變化合理使用do或does。一般疑問句也需要在主語前加助動詞did，如：
Did she go to school? Did you watch the show ?
否定句直接在did后加not，也可以用其的縮寫形式didn’t，如：
My mother didn’t wash the clothes yesterday.
We didn’t water the plants.
