1．基本用法
(1)用作________代詞，代替前面提到過的事物。例如：
This is a new dictionary. I bought it yesterday.
這是一本新詞典，我昨天買的它。
(2)代替________代詞，相當于this或that。例如：
—What's that？那是什么？
—It's an MP3. 它是一部MP3。
(3)表示某人(who，someone，somebody等)的身份，還可指代不明性別的人或嬰兒(baby)等。例如：
Someone is coming upstairs. It must be the postman.
有人上樓來了，一定是郵遞員。
—Go and see who is knocking at the door.去看看誰在敲門。
—It's Bill.是比爾。
(4)指________、距離、自然現象(天氣、氣候、明暗)、度量、價值等。例如：It's Sunday today.今天是星期天。
It's three months since he came here.他到這里已經三個月了。
How far is it to the Great Wall?到長城有多遠？
It's getting dark.天色漸暗。
2．it的句法功能
這時的it沒有詞義，只是幫助改變句子結構，使句子顯得平衡一些或強調某一句子成分。
(1)用作________主語。
it作形式主語時置于句首，而將作真正主語的動詞不定式(短語)、動名詞(短語)或主語從句放到后面。例如：
It is necessary to ask the teacher for help.向老師求助是必要的。
It hasn't been decided whether to hold a meeting this week.
本周是否召開會議還沒有決定。
常用于下列句型中：
①It is ＋adj.＋(for sb.) to do sth. 意為“(對某人來說)做某事……”。例如：
It's important for us to protect the environment. 對我們來說保護環境(很)重要。
②It's time to do/for/that… 意為“到……時間了”。例如：
It's time to get up/for supper/that we go to school.是起床/吃晚飯/上學的時間了。
③It's one's turn to do sth. 意為“輪到某人做某事了”。例如：
It's your turn to answer the question.
