Reading Tips

閱讀時,可根據閱讀任務的不同,綜合運用略讀(skimming)與掃讀(scanning) 。提高快速閱讀水平。

Skimming and scanning are two fast reading skills to help to browse text and extract the key points. 

The skills require practice, but once you have got the hang of them you’ll find you can get through a substantial amount of reading in quite a short time. 

These reading methods make it easier for you to grasp large amounts of materials, especially when you're previewing. They are also useful when you don't need to know every word.

通過略讀把握文章大意

略讀(skimming)只看文章標題、下標題以及每個部分或者段落第一行,關注文章中反復出現的關鍵詞。

略讀時,要用充足的時間讀懂段落的第一句和第二句,因為第一句往往是該段的主題句(topic sentence),而第二句往往是對前句的延伸(extension)或進一步的解釋(explanation)。

通過掃讀尋找特定信息或特定詞組

運用掃讀(scanning)迅速瀏覽從第三句開始的后面部分,搜尋作者對開頭兩句的支持句(supporting sentences),并同時注意文章中間是否有轉折詞(transition),因為這些詞常常會把文章的思路逆轉或加入其它重要的信息。當讀到段落的最后一句時,我們又要使用略讀,這時必須再次放慢速度(slow down your pace)直到完全消化作者對段落的小結(conclusion),因為該小結有可能與主題句截然相反或引導讀者進入下一個段落。

3. Why are pandas endangered?

On one hand, the baby pandas don’t live   

long because of illnesses; On the other  

hand, pandas feed on bamboo, but humans 

cut down the bamboo forests.

4. What does the education program in Chengdu do?

They send people to schools to tell children about the importance of saving pandas and other endangered wild animals.

5. Why are scientists doing research?

They hope to better understand the habits of pandas.

Language points

1. At 9:00 a.m., they find that most of the babies are already awake and hungry.

英語中,awake常用于be, stay, keep, lie之后,作表語;但也可與shake等動詞搭配,表“某人搖醒他人”等:

你得把她給搖醒。

You would have to shake her awake.

注意:awake不用于名詞之前,因此用作定語時要后置。

她是最后一個醒著的人。

She was the last person awake.

他是當時唯一醒著的男孩。

He was the only one boy awake at that time.

另外,awake不與very搭配使用,表示“完全醒來;十分清醒”用fully awake,wide awake。如:

等我們到達我的住所時,他已經完全清醒過來了。

He was wide awake by the time we reached my flat.

她站起身,但還沒有完全清醒。

She rose, still not quite fully awake.

2. Adult pandas spend more than 12 hours a day eating about 10 kilos of bamboo. 

1) 10 kilos of bamboo意為“10公斤竹子”,該結構是不可數名詞量的表達法,其結構為“數詞+單位名詞+of+名詞”。單位名詞可以是單數,也可以是復數。

2) spend … (in) doing sth.意為“花費……做某事”。

They spent two years (in) building this bridge. 

造這座橋花了他們兩年時間。
