Many people leave their hometowns to the cities.
Why do they leave hometown every year?
What new buildings does the government usually build in towns and villages?
Answer the questions before you read. Then read the passage to find out how similar your answers are to the passage.
1. What changes have you seen in your hometown?
In my hometown, new roads and new schools have appeared. The government has also built bridges and large hospitals.

Language points
1. Many people choose to leave their towns and villages to search for work in the city.
search作不及物動詞時，意為“搜索；搜查”。
search for意為“搜尋，找尋”。
e.g. He is searching for his sunglasses.
他正在找他的太陽鏡。
【拓展】作及物動詞，意為“在……搜查”或“搜查”。
e.g. They searched the forest for the lost child.
他們在森林里尋找那個走失的小孩。
2. Among these people is Zhong Wei, a 46-year- old husband and father.
among與between
among prep. 在三者或三者以上之間
e.g. Tom sits among the students.
湯姆坐在學生之間。
between prep. 在兩者之間
e.g. Tom sits between Mary and Frank.
湯姆坐在瑪麗和弗蘭克之間。
a 46-year-old husband and father意為“一位46歲的丈夫和父親”，46-year-old是一個復合形容詞，特點“一是數詞、名詞、形容詞之間要用連字符連接，二是數詞后的名詞用單數形式”。
e.g.
Tom is a 10-year-old boy. =
Tom is a boy of 10 years old. 湯姆是一個10歲的男孩。
Lily is an 8-year-old girl. 莉莉是一個8歲的女孩。
【拓展】
另一種類似的復合形容詞作定語的結構是：
數詞+連字符+名詞，或數詞+名詞的所有格。
e.g. a two-month holiday = a two months’holiday
一個為期兩個月的假期。
ten-minute walk/drive/ride =ten minutes’walk/drive/ride
步行/開車/騎車10分鐘的路程
3. It’s a shame that I had to leave my hometown.
shame不可數名詞，意為“羞恥；羞愧；慚愧” 。
e.g. It’s a shame (that) you can’t stay for dinner.
你不能留下來吃晚飯，真遺憾。

to one’s shame “令人感到羞愧的是”
feel shame at … “因……而感到羞愧”
in shame “羞愧的”
have no shame “無羞恥心”
4. The old school opened in the middle of the last century.
century，可數名詞，意為“世紀；百年”，
其復數形式為centuries。
e.g. the mid-20th century 20世紀中期
an eighteenth-century writer

A hundred years is a century.
一百年是一個世紀。
5. Zhong Wei regards such developments as important steps for his hometown.
regard及物動詞，意為“將……認為；把……視為”。
常用短語regard…as…意為“將……視為……；把……當做……”，as為介詞，其后接名詞或代詞。
e.g. I regard you as my best friend.
我把你當做我最好的朋友。
We regard him as our brother.
我們把他當成兄弟看待。
6. According to him, however, one thing will never change.
according to意為“依照，按照”，to為介詞，后接名詞、代詞或從句。
e.g.
He divided them into three groups according to age. 他把他們按年齡分成三組。
7. consider動詞，意為“考慮”，相當于think about，后跟名詞、代詞、動名詞、賓語從句或“疑問詞+不定式”。
e.g. Please consider my suggestion.
請考慮我的建議。
I am considering changing my job.

He has never considered how to solve that problem.
他從未考慮過如何解決那個問題。
