并列復合句

1. 并列復合句的定義:

由并列連詞and, but, or等把兩個或兩個以上的簡單句連在一起而構成的句子。

Jane has kept the book for three days and she must return it tomorrow.

The boy fell off the bike, but he didn’t hurt.

2. 并列復合句的構成:

并列復合句的基本結構是:簡單句+并列連詞+簡單句

I help him and he helps me.

You must put on your coat, or you’ll have a bad cold in such a cold day.

3. 并列連詞前后簡單句之間的關系:

(1) 并列關系。

翻譯:他們在看電視,其他人在聽廣播。 

They are watching TV, and the others are listening to the radio.

(2) 選擇關系。

翻譯:他們可以跟我們走,也可以待在家里。

They can go with us, or they can stay at home.

(3) 轉折關系。

翻譯:他感到疲憊,但是他沒有停止工作。

He was tired, but he did not stop working.

4. 注意事項:

(1) 并列復合句有時可不用連詞,而用分號隔開(前后句之間的關系須相當緊密)。

翻譯:我們釣了一天魚;我們一條魚都沒有釣到。

We fished all day; we did not catch a single fish.

 (2) 并列連詞后的簡單句如果與其前的簡單句有相同的部分,則相同的部分??墒÷?。

翻譯:史努比生活在自己的世界里,發現現實生活難以理解。

Snoopy lives in his own world and (Snoopy) finds real life hard to understand.

Work in pairs.

Student A: Say a sentence about travel.

New York is a long way from Beijing.

Student B: Add to Student A’s sentence with another sentence beginning with but.

But London is closer.

Student A: Add to Student B’s sentence with another sentence beginning with but.

But the weather isn’t as good as that in New York.

Check the answers.

1 Who has left the message?

Wang Feng has left the message.

2 Where is Wang Feng now?

He’s at home with his American family.

3 What does he think of his American family?

He thinks that they’re really nice.

4 What is his American family going to watch on the beach this afternoon?

They’re going to watch a beach volleyball match.

5 What does his American family think of the French group?

They think that they’re really good.

Take part in your class discussion. 

Think about what you want to say and how you want to say it. 

Speak loudly and clearly so everyone can understand what you say.

Listen politely to what the other students say and ask questions.

Homework

1. Revise the words and expressions in Module 7.

2. Recite the dialogue and the text.

3. Preview Module 8.
